Honey Honey

Honey, honey/ You are my candy girl/ And you got me wanting you

The Archies, Sugar, Sugar

Desire’s complex and inherently selfish nature motivates us all. Fueled by subconscious hunger, measures taken to both be desired and to possess the desirable shape the experience of the individual. Politics of how we display our desire, which cravings are permissible in social space, which bodies are marked, and which brands of passion are considered normal, are constantly present in the mind. Though subject to change, the drive to consume comes in and out of focus, sticking to the surface of particular skins. Molten and viscous, desire simultaneously envelops us, enters us, seeps from the smallest fissures, and is poured out from inside our deepest crevices.

Orchids suspended in pure clover honey attempt to preserve delicate beauty. Three preservation tanks, or basins, showcase honey’s longevity and archival quality. The seductive qualities of honey are here unexploited and unutilized; its desire muted. Embodied as quiet offerings, Honey Basins, present themselves as both vibrant and static, living yet frozen, both fertile and impotent.
